2010 Women's Only Kayaking Social Tour
Enjoy our WOMEN'S ONLY Kayak Social! A relaxing day of kayaking, swimming, socializing with other women and Oh yes... best of all Ice cream! After meeting at Frontenac Outfitters we travel the short distance to Desert Lake where we launch from the beach. Paddling north we wind down scenic Mitchell Creek into spring fed Birch Lake, which borders the north side of Frontenac Provincial Park. The Frontenac Park region abounds with all kinds of birds and wildlife and was recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site; one of only 4 in Ontario. If we're lucky we just might catch a glimpse of otters sliding into the lake, hear the haunting call of a loon or see deer standing in silence along the edge of a lake. Our trip includes a leisurely lunch (you bring) and a refreshing swim before we make our way back. I almost forgot... ice cream greets us at trips end... you earned it! Frontenac Outfitters instructor's will teach you fundamental kayak skills right here in the warm calm waters of our own beautiful Pearkes Lake... the perfect venue to enter the wonderful world of kayaking. Our "Getting Started Course" focuses on kayak terminology, understanding boat design and key elements of what to look for in a kayak. On water skills include proper paddling techniques and the importance of form. Rescues and safety skills are also emphasized. Course completion provides you with the skills to quickly become an educated, self-sufficient, responsible kayaker! Hello Larry & Christine,
"We're deeply grateful for your beginner's kayak course last Sunday. The rescue techniques especially gave us some experience and food for thought on handling a tip-over. Larry's seriousness in teaching was lightened up with humor. Christine was very intent in transmitting her knowledge in ways most easily absorbed by her students, and was most concerned about safety. Leslie was good in checking out us "special students" to pinpoint unique flaws that needed addressing.
Concern and competence are the hallmarks of your course, which make us extremely glad to have taken it"
Best Regards,
Jim & Eglantine Gomez
Hi Christine, Larry and Lesley
"Thank you for a very educational day. I learned so much from you all. The day was packed with such good information and safety tips. These lessons will stand us in good stead no matter which waters we paddle. Christine you are an amazing instructor. A special thanks to Lesley who never wavered in her encouragement and confidence that I really could get back into the boat, one last time. I had no strength left but it was your insistence that really paid off. LOL Looking forward to the 1000 Islands tour with Larry" Cheers Paula Dear Larry and Matt: "Thank you for such an interesting and informative session this morning. Despite the wet weather, the course was fun and extremely helpful. Thanks for taking the time to incorporate the single kayak re-entry into the program. I feel much better having actually done it. You put on a first class program!"
