2010 Paddle Canada FW Intro to Sea Kayaking: 1-Day 'Women's Only' Certified Course

Our Most Popular Course with a twist... Sea Kayaking from a 'Woman's Perspective, no men allowed... SORRY BOYS!

It's the same comprehensive 8- hour Flat water Introduction to Sea Kayaking Course as the co-ed version, we simply put emphasis on women's special paddling needs. You will learn the fundamentals of Sea Kayaking theories, strokes, rescues and recovery skills and many students return each season to continue improving. Women are extremely well suited to the sport of sea kayaking as paddling skills are more about technique and less about muscle mass, height and upper body strength. Frontenac Outfitters On-Water Kayak Centre provides a beautiful, serene environment for women to develop & refine their techniques.

“WOMEN’S ONLY” FLATWATER INTRODUCTION to SEA KAYAKING: 1-Day Certified Course

Our most popular course with a twist… Paddling from a 'Woman's Perspective! It’s the same comprehensive course as the co-ed version, with emphasis on women's special paddling needs. Women are well suited to the sport of sea kayaking. Paddling skills are about technique not muscle mass, height or upper body strength. Our facility provides the perfect environment for women to develop proper technique. You will learn the fundamentals of Sea Kayaking; safety, theory & skills.

What you’ll learn:

Safety:

  • Retrieving swamped kayaks
  • Bow rescue, T-Rescue, rafting kayaks to form a stable platform

Theory:

  • Kayak Types (sea, Day-Touring & Recreational)
  • Parts of a kayak
  • Boat outfitting, personal fit, control & safety
  • Safety equipment (mandatory & recommended) & how to use
  • Paddling apparel for different weather conditions & temperatures
  • Kayak paddles, the diverse selection, intention & benefits
  • Equipment proper use & care
  • Injury prevention, stretches & warm-ups
  • Available kayaking resources

Skills:

  • Entering & exiting
  • Wet exits & re-entries
  • Balance points, initial & secondary stability
  • Edging
  • Pivot & turning points
  • Straight line paddling, forward & reverse
  • Lifts & carries (solo & tandem)
  • Loading & Off Loading from a vehicle
  • Forward & reverse strokes, forward & reverse sweeps, reverse stroke, draw stroke
  • Low brace

Candidates are evaluated throughout the course on:

  • Participation individual & group
  • Kayaking skills
  • Group awareness & self-control
  • General attitude

Successful participants:

  • Receive a Paddle Canada Flatwater Certification Card

How to book:

  • Class dates & size are limited & book up quickly. To sign up please refer to our online registration package. Courses run rain or shine!

Note: Our 'Women's Courses' may book up months in advance so early reservations are highly recommended, minimum 6-students required.

Prerequisite:

  • Swim 50- meters with PFD & have a big smile

What we provide:

  • Quality New Sea Kayak, PFD, Paddle, Spray Skirt, Paddle Float, Pump, Whistle & Throw Bag

Course Cost:

  • $170.00 + 13% HST = $192.10 (HST- Harmonized Sales Tax)
  •  Receive a 10% discount for using your own pre-approved sea kayak

Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellation for any reason within a 14-day period prior to the course/clinic will result in a forfeiture of an administration charge of $40.00 per participant.
  • Frontenac Outfitters reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course or clinic due to inclement weather or lack of participation
