2010 Kayaking on the Edge

Once you are good at the basics its time to refine your strokes, push your limits and get yourself paddling more efficiently by kayaking on EDGE! Frontenac outfitters intermediate course fine-tunes skills like bracing, edging and some likely recoveries (when you tip over) previously learned and hopefully practiced in our Flat water Introduction to Sea Kayaking Course.

Cost:	$55.00 + 5% GST = $57.75 hr. (Add $35 / hr. - for each additional student)

KAYAKING ON-EDGE

We help you refine your strokes, push your limits and get you paddling more efficiently... by kayaking on EDGE! This intermediate course fine-tunes skills learned previously (and hopefully practiced) in our Flatwater Introduction to Sea Kayaking Course. Have Fun!

Kayak Theory:

Kayak designs
Chines; hard vs. multi vs. soft
Kayak outfitting for control & safety
Kayak dynamics
Kayak control both above and below deck
Injury prevention, stretches & warm-ups
Available kayak resources

Skills:

Balance points, initial & secondary stability
Edging
Pivot & turning points
Forward & reverse sweeps with an edge
Lifts & carries (solo & tandem)
Low brace
High brace

Prerequisite:

We recommend completion of our "Getting Started" and/or "Flat Water Introduction to Sea Kayaking" or equivalent skills!

What we provide:

Sea Kayak, PFD, Kayak Paddle, Spray Skirt, Paddle Float, Pump, Whistle & Throw Bag

Course Cost: Offered as a private course

$55.00 + 13% HST = $62.15 hr. (Add $35 / hr. - for each additional student) After July 1, 2010

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation for any reason within a 14-day period prior to the course/clinic will result in a forfeiture of an administration charge of $40.00 per participant
Frontenac Outfitters reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course or clinic due to inclement weather or lack of participation

Stuff to bring:

Wide brimmed sun hat
Sunglasses (we sell eyeglass holders & floaters)
Sunscreen & lip balm (waterproof)
Bathing suit & towel
T-shirt, light long-sleeve shirt, shorts, undergarments
Raincoat, paddling jacket & sweater (if needed)
Water shoes or sandals
Water Bottle (we stock pop & water)
Most Importantly... an attitude for having FUN!!!

Places to stay:

We offer on-site campsites, Country style B & B's are nearby, or endless accommodation in Kingston is 30 - 40 minutes to the south.
