2013 Rideau Canal - Discover Day Tour

The Rideau Canal is a 126-mile / 202-km waterway connecting Lake Ontario's Kingston to Ottawa, our Nation's Capital. The waterway route was the creation of Britain's Lieutenant Colonel John By in the wake of the U.S. / Canada War of 1812 as a wartime supply route alternative to the international boundary of the St. Lawrence River. Its 47 locks, blockhouses and dams are considered one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) declared the Rideau Canal System a "World Heritage Site" in 2007.
Our Rideau Canal Kayak Tour concentrates on the routes most scenic 12-km stretch from historic Jones Falls to beautiful Chaffey's Locks!
Your adventure begins at the historic 60' high dam at Jones Falls, but not before first exploring this beautiful locations 4- lockstations, steeped in history. Along the way we will describe the workers' sacrifices and the difficulties engineers experienced while building this spectacular waterway.
